Grand Master Ilchi Lee created Dahn Yoga to help students achieve personal peace, the foundation of his goal for world peace.

Dahn Yoga and World Peace

Dr. Lee hopes to create millions of "Earth Humans" in just a few years to facilitate world peace. In addition to the classes at over 600 centers in countries around the world, Dahn Yoga offers many workshops and seminars that facilitate students' growth to create healthy bodies, spirits, minds, and communities to lead to a peaceful world.

Dahn Yoga Korea Club

The Dahn Yoga Korea Club helps fulfill Grand Master Ilchi Lee's mission of creating more "Earth Humans" to promote world peace. The Korea Club enriches  the Dahn Yoga experience by providing a context in which students can learn more about Korean culture through direct personal experience (food, music, fashion show, etc), films shown at club meetings, and this website. Dahn Yoga has many amazing, influential students from around the world. As they learn to appreciate Korean culture, that knowledge can spread easily and may be a factor in increasing understanding in times of international tension. The peace and environmental movements encourage us to "think globally, act locally". The Korea Club facilitates that. This is particularly helpful in a world so wracked by war and at a time of escalating tension between the US and North Korea. In addition, the Korea Club is a lot of fun!

See below how Dahn Yoga introduces students to Korean culture and how the Korea Club enhances that knowledge.

See how both facilitate world peace.

Dahn Yoga

Dahn Yoga
provides a window through which students can get a glimpse of Korean culture:

  • We remove our shoes as we enter the center
  • We wear a uniform that is based on the traditional Korean attire called "hanbok"
  • We bow in class to masters, instructors, and other students
  • We use a few Korean works in class
  • An honorific Korean appendix (do-oo-nim) is attached to the names of students
  • We have tea sitting on the floor after class
  • Many Dahn Yoga masters and instructors are Korean and students can often hear them speak Korean

It is possible to study Dahn Yoga without ever learning more about Korea. However, students who wish to understand Dahn Yoga in the context of the culture from which it comes will discover an endlessly fascinating adventure!  For many students, Dahn Yoga becomes a significant part of their lives in terms of their commitment in time and finances, and the way in which Dahn Yoga can radically change a student's life. A deeper knowledge of Korea and even a little knowledge of the Korean alphabet can significantly enhance a student's appreciation and understanding of Dahn Yoga. Students may know that Grand Master Ilchi Lee created Dahn Yoga starting with one student in a park in Korea in 1980. However, they may not know that Dahn Yoga's commitment to world peace is deeply rooted in Korea's 5,000-year-old culture. Understanding these roots greatly enhances appreciation of the goals of Dahn Yoga.

Korea Club

The Korea Club helps facilitate Grand Master Ilchi Lee's vision for world peace as it allows Dahn Yoga students to learn about Korea. This is especially important now when there is increasing tension between the US and North Korea. Dahn Yoga has many amazing, influential students from around the world. As they learn to appreciate Korean culture, that knowledge can spread easily and may be a factor in increasing understanding in times of international tension. The peace and environmental movements encourage us to "think globally, act locally". The Korea Club facilitates that!

The Korea Club provides Dahn Yoga students with three ways to experience Korean culture more deeply:

  • Direct, personal experience of Korean music, foods, dress, etc. These meetings are spectacular and colorful. They may be at the Brooklyn Heights center or at another location. The May meeting was at the Brooklyn center and included a delicious traditional Korean lunch and a colorful fashion show of traditional Korean attire (hanbok). However, the June meeting took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art where we heard a traditional Korean musician. For the August meeting, we will go with Master Jo and Kee Nam to Koreatown in NYC to eat at HanGawi -- an organic, vegetarian Korean restaurant.

  • An in-depth overview through fascinating videos and DVDs about South Korea as well as hot, current South Korean films that are winning in international festivals! Just by watching a few videos and DVDs, you will be surprised how quickly you will learn about this multi-faceted culture that is getting so much attention around the world now. The July meeting will feature the 55-minute film South Korea: Land of Morning Calm which provides a fascinating insight into traditional and modern Korea. See Books about South Korea for two books called Korea: Land of Morning Calm. The books and film reflect the name by which Korea was known during the Choson Dynasty which lasted from 1392 until 1910 when modern-day Korea was born. See South Korean Films below on the growing "Korea Wave" of great South Korean films that are winning in international festivals!

  • The Korea Club website supplements the insight into Korean culture provided by direct personal experience and films.

The Korea Club provides a door through which students can easily walk deeper into Korean culture in many ways!

Through the Korea Club, students have the opportunity to:

  • Gain a deeper appreciation of HSP and how it relates to the Heavenly Code and world peace
  • Understand more about why students are called "do-oo-nim"!
  • Gain a deeper appreciation of the tea ceremony
  • Experience a traditional Korean lunch at the Dahn Yoga center
  • Learn about the health benefits of delicious Korean foods
  • See a "fashion show" of traditional Korean attire (hanbok)
  • Hear traditional Korean music at club meetings
  • Learn the "Arirang" traditional folksong of Korea
  • Watch films about Korea to gain a deeper understanding of the culture quickly and easily
  • See fantastic Korean films that are winning in film festivals around the world
  • Learn about the Korean Wave that is weeping Asia and hitting the West now!
  • Go to Koreatown in NYC with Master Jo and Kee Nam
  • Eat at wonderful traditional Korean restaurants
  • Visit Korean bookstores and pastry shops
  • Use the Dahn Yoga Korea Club website to learn much more
  • Learn the Korean alphabet (hangeul) -- considered the best in the world by linguists
  • Begin to read simple Korean words and enrich your understanding of Dahn Yoga and the Korean culture

Note: In Korea, Dahn Yoga is called Dahn Hak -- "the study of energy".

See the Club Meetings page for more information on the Korea Club.
