xDahn Yoga Korea Club
June 2 Meeting
Our second Korea Club meeting, which took place on June 2, was as spectacular as our opening meeting on May 5! However, it was quite different because we went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art right to hear a concert by the traditional Korean musician Hwang Byungki! The Regional Director Dahn Hwa Jeon generously rescheduled an important regional meeting to allow the Dahn Yoga masters to attend! Unfortunately, she was unable to attend the concert herself because of an meeting in Sedona! A few other masters were also unable to come for various reasons. However, 17 of the 23 masters in the region were present. See the list of masters below.
What Happened at the Meeting

Members of the Brooklyn Heights Dahn Yoga center left to go to the museum early to be there in time to greet all the masters coming from the centers around New York. Below, Sven Grell, Neenah Payne, and Kee Nam Kim are shown first in front of the Dahn Yoga center and then before entering the museum where Namyong Kim joined them later. Unfortunately, Master Mi Lim Jo could not attend.

Hwang Byungki Concert -- Traditional musician Hwang Byungki played in NYC after giving a concert in Boston and before going to Washington. DC for the final concert in his East coast tour. The Diamond Sutra Recitation Group provided the Korea Club with a CD by Hwang Byungki which is played at our club meetings and which is heard on the homepage of this site. Hwang performed on June 2 on the kayagum with five colleagues who played a komungo (similar to the kayagum played by Hwang), a drum, and an awesome bamboo flute called a "taegum". In addition, the concert included a marvelous singer. For more information on the taegum, see the two photos below and check: http://ccrma.stanford.edu/CCRMA/Courses/220a/unjung/koreanflute/korflute.html. Museum Photos
The first photo below was taken at the Group Registration desk in the museum before the concert.
The remaining photos were taken at the Korean art exhibit in the museum after the concert.
In the first photo below, Master Eun Young Park is seen talking with Hwang Byungki (partially hidden by his kayagum) at the top of the stairs on the left while other Dahn Yoga masters are shown in the forefront of the photo on the steps. In the second and third photos, Hwang is shown holding the kayagum. Neenah had a chance to get a great photo with Hwang, but was not very photogenic! In the last photos, Hwang leaves the museum to catch a taxi with his colleagues.
Dinner at HanGawi -- After the concert, the group went to HanGawi in Koreatown for dinner.
The August meeting of the Korea Club will also include a trip to HanGawi!
